• OPTICOACOUSTIC REACTOR (OAR)

is a real-time interactive application based on MAX/MSP & Jitter platform for Mac or Win OS. It functions with simple web cameras or ip cameras that capture movement. The input live video is transformed through the "frame difference" effect and in this way we get a white frame of the moving source in front of a black background. The setup can be configured using a network of cameras over a wifi or an adhoc network.

One vertical line of the matrix is functioning as data input sensor outputing continuous values scaled from 0 to 256. This controls an 127 pFFT  filter object setting the value combination of amplitude and slider's number on a multislider object. The data flow is sent through UDP addresses to the audio and midi modules. Multiple modules can be used depending on the network and hardware configuration getting manually the preset combination from a preset multicontroller via send & receive objects

The number flow controls live audio (pitch), sampled audio (pitch), a noise generator (band, level) and midi data (pitch and velosity) of a soundfont player (DLS synths or external).

There is also an effect chain consisting of a vst granulator, a harmonizer and a reverb.

All the setups are saved separatelly as presets and are recalled according to the project's score manually.

The output is up to 4 channels but it can be configured depending on sondcard's spects.

First time, it has been used in "Ophelia's Quartet" performance with the soprano Natalia Pschenitschnikova at the ATTIS Theatre, Athens, Greece, 2013.

It has also been used in the audio - visual performance "Fugue to Ipsikaminos" based on poems of A. Empirikos (2011)..

It is published as a MAX project at cycling 74 site ➤
